Nicola woke me just after midnight on Thursday morning as she felt she was having contractions, we timed them with a stopwatch, and first phoned the maternity ward around 3am when they were a few minutes apart, and then went into the hospital at 4.40am just as it was getting light, we were put straight into delivery room 2, and Nicola was put on the monitor for 20 minutes to check everything was OK, which was fine.Nicola did fantastically well, walking around in the delivery room during contractions, she had a bath around 6am to try to relax and get comfortable, and sat on a birthing ball until about 11.30am which worked really well for her, when the midwifes wanted to start monitoring her closely, so she moved onto the bed.
Baby was born at 3.54pm, Thursday 8th June 2006, and is a beautiful baby girl, we have named Evie Pavlova (Nicola chose the first name, after her Granny, I chose the middle name), she weighed 7lb 10.5oz (3.9Kg), and was 49cm long. Mum and baby were very tired and sore, but all OK which was a fantastic relief.
Nicola and Evie stayed in hospital overnight, and came home the next afternoon.
